Whilst most people are familiar with Conservatories very few have actually heard of an Orangery.
An Orangery is a form of room which is often labeled as a “home extension” that can be used in the same way a Conservatory can. Orangeries offer home owners the chance to extend their living space in style whilst offering styling & design that is different from your typical conservatory.

Conservatories and orangeries are generally permitted developments which do not require planning permission, providing they meet certain criteria.

Typical average-sized orangeries take between four and five weeks to build, including all snagging and finishing off. Large projects could last around six to eight weeks.
Construction work will usually begin with the base, and tends to involve builders being on site for about about a week or so. During this time they will clear the ground, dig the footings, lay the base layers and level the floor before building the walls. Normally the building work would then be left for a few days – ideally over a weekend – to settle.
During the next couple of weeks the frames will go up and be glazed, and any electrical work started. This is followed by plastering the walls, finishing off the electrical work and then adding the flooring. Depending on what type of floor you choose, as well as the time of year, it’s sometimes best to wait a few weeks to let the floor dry out thoroughly first.
Finally the roof and glazed lantern is added. Depending on the complexity of the design this can take up to two extra weeks to complete.
There is more work during the build process for our unique orangeries, so they are a little bit more expensive than a typical conservatory.
For example, there is more building work required, joinery for the internal lighting pelmet, lighting and plastering.
However, our orangeries are designed to be a far more cost effective solution than what many other double glazing companies supply.
We will introduce the team to you on the first day so you get to know and trust them so that you don’t need to be at home for the duration of the work.
If side access is good, disruption should be minimal. It helps if you have outside water and electrical facilities.
Be aware that your power supply may need to be switched off while the electrical work is done, and your garden may suffer some damage due to the number of people coming in and out.
Boards will be used in the garden and then taken up overnight to allow the grass to grow.
Top tip: Don’t panic when the base goes down and it looks small. It always looks smaller than you expect at this stage – it seems to grow in area as the frames go up!
